The first workshop occurred on April 7th and 8th in Sante Fe, New Mexico, and the second workshop occurred in Paris France on June 28 and 29, 2009. Attendees included members from industry, academia, and government, with expertise in a range of critical areas. The third workshop will occur in Tsukuba, Japan on October 19-21, 2009 (Monday through Wednesday noon), with people arriving in time for a reception on October 18th (Sunday). Goals for the workshops include the following:

  • Assess the short-term, medium-term and long-term software and algorithm needs of applications for peta/exascale systems
  • Explore how laboratories, universities, and vendors can work together on coordinated HPC software
  • Understand existing R&D plans addressing new programming models and tools addressing extreme scale, multicore, heterogeneity and performance
  • Develop of a roadmap for software and algorithms on extreme-scale systems
  • Setting a prioritized list of software components for Exascale computing

Attendance at the workshop is by invitation only.

The work of the Tsukuba meeting will build on the results of the Paris meeting and will seek to complete a draft of the IESP roadmap.
