The most recent IESP workshop, the seventh in series, was held in Cologne, Germany, on Oct. 6-7, 2011. At this meeting, the IESP community continued to develop the ideas of hardware/software co-design and to evaluate strategies for managing the software lifecycle for extreme scale software infrastructure; they also began to consider some more radical execution models that the move to exascale science may require. The group plans to produce an overview of the current state different national and international projects to develop exascale computing by the end of the decade, targeted for spring 2012. The next workshop is currently slated for Kobe, Japan on April 11-13, 2012. The basic arrangements for the Kobe meeting have already been made. Attendance at the workshop is by invitation only.
Along with the current version of the IESP Roadmap, other notable products of recent workshops are now available. Included are reports from the working group on codesign and the working group on revolutionary approaches to key design issues, from the Cologne meeting in October; and the Co-Design Code Team Survey, the Survey of System Software Stacks in the IESP Community, and slides summarizing the results of the stack survey, from the Cologne meeting in October.
We are now also tracking recent international program announcements of interest to the community, such as the new one from the German Research Foundation.
