The initial IESP workshops of 2009 occurred in Santa Fe, NM, USA, Paris, France, and Tskuba, Japan, in April, June, and October, respectively. The most recent workshop took place in Oxford, UK, in April 2010, and led to the publication of version 1.0 of the IESP Roadmap. The next meeting will be held in Maui, HI, US, on Oct. 18-19, attendees arriving in time for a reception on the 17th (Sunday). The meeting on the 19th will run the full day. Attendees include members from industry, academia, and government, with expertise in a range of critical areas.
Goals for this fifth meeting of the IESP series include the following:
- Refine software roadmap for software and algorithms on extreme-scale systems based on feedback since initial release.
- Refine the prioritized list of software components for Exascale computing as outlined in the Roadmap.
- Refine the assessment of the short-term, medium-term and long-term software and algorithm needs of applications for peta/exascale systems.
- Explore how laboratories, universities, and vendors can work together on coordinated HPC software.
- Explore governance structure and management models for IESP.
- Explore IP/Open Source issues.
Attendance at the workshop is by invitation only.
The work of the Maui Meeting will build on the current version of the IESP Roadmap and will seek to formulate and build toward consensus on a governance and management model for the IESP. A draft agenda for the meeting will be available soon.
